Steel Prices Move Higher, but Buyer Acceptance Remains Uncertain
After a prolonged period of relatively quiet trading, steel prices have started to move higher. The recent increase is supported in part by lower steel production in China, with July crude steel output falling to its lowest level of the year. However, underlying demand remains uneven, particularly in construction, so the recent price improvement does not yet confirm a broad market recovery.
Currency movements have also added another variable to the market. While steel prices have moved higher, exchange-rate changes can alter the actual cost impact for overseas buyers, making the current market picture more complex than the steel price movement alone.
